Best supplements for high blood pressure – the ‘important natural remedy’ for hypertension
High blood pressure is a common condition that affects more than 25 percent of all adults in the UK. But you could lower your risk of developing hypertension by simply taking daily fish oil supplements, it’s been claimed.
Hypertension puts extra stress on blood vessels and vital organs.
Eating an unhealthy diet or not doing enough regular exercise could be raising your chances of high blood pressure.
But, you could lower your chances of developing the condition by taking supplements, scientists have claimed.
One of the most important ways to protect against hypertension is simply taking fish oil supplements, it’s been claimed.
Fish oil could lower your blood pressure as it’s rich in omega-3 fatty acids, according to nutritionist Dr Sarah Brewer.
Omega-3s reduce inflammation inside the body, while also preventing blood stickiness.
The fatty acids also slow down the production of so-called inflammatory mediators, that usually lead to hardened arteries, and subsequently hypertension.
Regularly taking fish oil supplements, you could lower your risk of high blood pressure by as much as a third, scientists have claimed.

“Fish oil is an important natural remedy for high blood pressure,” said Dr Brewer, on her website MyLowerBloodPressure.com.
“Diet should always come first, but not everyone likes fish enough to eat five portions a week. This is where supplements come into their own.
“The usual dose for omega-3 fish oils is between 1g to 3g a day. Higher doses may be recommended under medical supervision, for example to lower a raised triglyceride level, or to treat severe inflammatory diseases.
“If you prefer to take cod liver oil, which as the name suggests is extracted from the liver of cod rather than from oily fish, doses are lower due to their high vitamin A content. A typical dose for cod liver oil is between 1g and 1.5g per day.”

If you’re not a fan of fish oil supplements, you could also lower your blood pressure by taking garlic supplements.
The capsules could lower systolic blood pressure by around 10mmHg over a 12-week period.
But, you should only take garlic supplements after speaking to a doctor, scientists warned.
They could interact with existing blood pressure medication, they said.

High blood pressure is often known as ‘the silent killer’, as you may not even know you’re at risk of the condition.
But, some of the earliest symptoms of hypertension include severe headaches and dizziness.
Everyone over 40 years old should check their blood pressure at least once every five years.
Speak to a doctor or pharmacist to have your blood pressure checked.
