Type 2 diabetes: Dr Hilary Jones recommends best supplement to help lower blood sugar
Type 2 diabetes is a condition in which the body can’t control the amount of sugar in the blood, causing blood sugar levels to reach dangerously high levels. If blood sugar isn’t controlled properly and stays too high, a number of health complications can develop, including kidney failure, nerve damage, heart disease and stroke.

With more people than ever before at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and an estimated five million people in the UK to be diagnosed with the condition by 2025, what can be done to keep blood sugar levels in check?
In most causes type 2 diabetes is caused by being overweight or inactive, but according to Dr Hilary, some simple lifestyle changes can help control blood sugar levels and prevent the condition – which includes taking supplements.
He said: “Type 2 diabetes is a lifelong condition although changes in diet and activity levels together with well/chosen medication and regular check-ups will help keep the condition under control and best managed.
“When we talk about ‘reversing’ diabetes it generally means being able to come off regular medication and returning blood sugar readings to pre-diabetic levels.
“Bariatric surgery and very low calorie diets are particularly useful in this respect but much depends on how long someone has had the condition, how severe it is, and their genetic make-up.”
He added: “The condition is generally treated with lifestyle changes involving diet and exercise to normalise blood sugars and prevent secondary complications.
“Medication is often necessary, with Metformin being a common first choice although other medicines may need to be added in combination with this and insulin only becoming necessary if no other medicines work sufficiently well. “
When it comes to supplements that may help with type 2 diabetes, Dr Hilary recommends Ojamin Herb and Fruit.
He said: “Ojamin Herb and Fruit may be of interest to people with type 2 diabetes.
“It is a sugar free tonic containing 14 refined ingredients , several of which have been shown in scientific studies to exert blood sugar lowering effects, reduced insulin resistance, weight loss, fat reduction and decreased cholesterol levels.
“It has many advocates amongst the research community and has been used for many years in other parts of the world for general health and well-being.”
But Dr Hilary warned supplements shouldn’t be regarded as a potential cure or standalone treatment for people with established type 2 diabetes.

He advised” “Some may be combined with conventional treatment to relieve symptoms and reduce the risk of future complications.
“Such supplements include, for example, aloe vera, basil, bitter melon, fenugreek, gooseberry, cumin, turmeric and watermelon, all of which can be used individually as part of diabetic-friendly recipes.”
The NHS recommends a healthy diet and keeping active to help manage blood sugar levels.
There will also help control weight, which is a risk factor for the condition.
What should you eat?
The health body advises: “There’s nothing you cannot eat if you have type 2 diabetes, but you’ll have to limit certain foods.
“You should eat a wide range of foods – including fruit, vegetables and some starchy foods like pasta, keep sugar, fat and salt to a minimum, and eat breakfast, lunch and dinner every day – do not skip meals.”
What’s the best exercise?
The health body says: “Physical exercise helps lower your blood sugar level. You should aim for 2.5 hours of activity a week.
“You can be active anywhere as long as what you’re doing gets you out of breath. This could be fast walking, climbing stairs or doing more strenuous housework or gardening.”
